Job Description:

A Finish/Trim Carpenter is a specialized carpenter responsible for the final touches on a construction project. Unlike rough carpenters who focus on structural work, finish carpenters focus on aesthetics, precision, and fine details. Their tasks primarily involve installing trim, moldings, cabinetry, and other decorative elements to enhance the interior and exterior appearance of a building.
Tools for the trade such as compressor, nail gun, mitre saw, router, drills, and hand tools

Key responsibilities include:

  • Interior Trim and Molding: Installing baseboards, crown molding, door casings, window trim, and other decorative wood features.
  • Cabinet Installation: Assembling, installing, and securing cabinets and shelving units in kitchens, bathrooms, and other spaces.
  • Doors and Windows: Installing doors (both interior and exterior), windows, and other structural components, ensuring they are fitted and properly aligned.
  • Custom Woodworking: Creating custom wood features, such as built-in shelves, entertainment units, or wooden staircases.
  • Staircases and Handrails: Installing stairs, handrails, and balustrades, ensuring both safety and aesthetics.
  • Finish Work: Sanding, painting, staining, and finishing wooden surfaces to achieve the desired look and texture.
  • Blueprint Reading: Reading and interpreting blueprints or construction drawings to ensure precision in measurements and designs.
  • Collaboration: Working with designers, architects, and other carpenters to ensure the final product meets design specifications and customer satisfaction.
  • Safety Compliance: Following all safety procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensuring a safe working environment.

Job Requirements:

  1. Skills and Abilities:

    • Carpentry Skills: Proficiency with hand tools (e.g., saws, hammers, chisels, screwdrivers) and power tools (e.g., miter saws, table saws, nail guns, drills).
    • Attention to Detail: Finish carpenters need excellent attention to detail to ensure precise cuts, alignments, and finishes.
    • Blueprint Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, plans, and technical drawings.
    • Fine Motor Skills: Precision in cutting, measuring, and assembling fine woodwork.
    • Staining and Finishing: Expertise in applying stains, paints, and finishes to wood surfaces for a polished look.
    • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues and come up with solutions when fitting or installing components doesn’t align as expected.
