Job Description

A rough carpenter is responsible for building the structural framework of buildings, including walls, floors, and roofs, using various materials like wood and steel. They interpret blueprints, measure, cut, and assemble materials, ensuring the structural integrity and stability of the building. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reading and Interpreting Blueprints: Understanding construction plans to ensure accurate building of structures. 
  • Measuring and Cutting Materials: Accurately measuring and cutting lumber and other materials to specifications. 
  • Framing Structures: Assembling floor joists, ceiling joists, studs, and bearing walls. 
  • Erecting Frameworks: Building the structural framework of buildings, including walls, floors, and roofs. 
  • Installing Structural Supports: Placing beams and posts for structural support. 
  • Ensuring Compliance: Adhering to building codes and safety standards throughout the construction process. 
  • Using Tools: Operating a variety of hand and power tools, such as saws, drills, and nail guns. 
  • Inspecting Materials: Checking for defects in materials to ensure quality and durability. 
  • Performing Repairs: Making necessary repairs to existing structures. 
Requirements: 
  • 5 years of verifiable work history in rough carpentry
  • Tools for the trade such as hammer drill, skill saw, hand tools, and safety harness
  • Experience installing safety rails
  • Reliable means of transportation
