Aviation Sheet Metal Mechanic

Job Summary:

A Heavy Structure Sheet Metal Aviation Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining the sheet metal components and structural parts of aircraft. This includes performing modifications, fabricating parts, and ensuring the structural integrity of the aircraft. The mechanic works with various tools, machinery, and materials to ensure the aircraft is airworthy and safe for flight.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspection: Inspect sheet metal structures of aircraft to detect damage, corrosion, or other issues that require repair or replacement.
• Repairs & Modifications: Repair or replace damaged or corroded sheet metal components, including fuselage, wings, tail sections, and other structural elements.
• Fabrication: Fabricate custom parts and panels from metal, using tools such as shears, brakes, and welders to fit the exact specifications needed for aircraft maintenance.
• Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to understand the specifications for repairs or installations.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to aviation safety standards, manufacturer’s guidelines, and regulatory requirements, such as FAA or EASA regulations.
• Testing & Quality Control: Test aircraft parts to ensure they meet structural integrity standards, conducting pressure tests and other necessary checks.
• Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery to ensure they are in safe working condition.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all inspections, repairs, and modifications completed on each aircraft.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other aviation mechanics, engineers, and crew members to ensure smooth operations during repairs and modifications.
